• Candidate must possess Certificate of Competency Class 1 (Motor).
• Minimum 3 years sailing experience in the rank of Chief Engineer on Tanker / Bulker on Foreign Going (FG) vessels during last 10 years.
• Preference may be given to a candidate having:
• Shore based experience in Ship Management overseeing technical operations, drydocking and procurement of ship stores/spares.
• Experience of handling Fleet & Crew management.
• Experience of managing technical budgets.
• Thorough understanding of safety, environmental, and operational regulations.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple vessels and priorities simultaneously.
• Demonstrates strong knowledge of dry-docking procedures, and technical operations.
• Experience of contract writing and contract management.
• Working knowledge of ISO 9000 Quality Management system, PPRA & ERP.

• To help ship officers plan and manage better, thus improving ships performance, and to be of help in meeting the objective set by the commercial and operation department.
• To monitor and keeping records of the ships performance. Thereafter, to highlight those items of work which are most expensive in terms of time and materials, so that they may be critically examined and improvements made in the method in order to reduce the cost.
• To arrange repairs at most competitive rates and to carry out work in a systematic manner and without overlooking items.
• To compile repair list and provide continuity so that officers joining a ship are aware of what has been done and what remains to be done.
• To arrange Dry Docking and settle bills afterwards.
• To provide information which may be used for training, and to enable people to carry out more responsible tasks and to suggest alterations, replacements & additions to ship machinery.
• Budgets estimation for repair & maintenance.
• Co-ordinate with stores supply and Bunker/Spares department for ship store and spares, ensuring that quality and quantity supplied are in accordance with SMS requirement.
• He shall be responsible for all repairs carried by PNSC Workshop/Outside workshop for all SMS purposes.
• To provide safe, pollution free, efficient, and cost effected vessels within the departmental jurisdiction for commercial operation.
• To ensure that the vessels are fully classed and statutory survey.
• Requirement relevant to his area of responsibility are met well within the specified time frame.
• To co-ordinate in dealing with ship’s emergencies and assume relevant responsibility of operations.
